In the Gold, Carrizo Plain, CA

On either side of the dirt road that winds through the Carrizo Plain National Monument protected area of southern California, meadows studded with wild flowers stretch out to meet distant foothills. A carpet of gold, interspersed with violets and reds at times. The sky is blue and clear and there’s a sense of great peace. Further on, from one of the two small campgrounds, a trail climbs up into the hills to end at a lookout where, below, the meadows and undulating hills stretch into the distance.
