Beachside, Oregon Coast

Dusk. The breeze that made you pull up the zipper on your jacket all day has died down and the beach is still except for the waves, foaming and dissipating as they touch your feet. The sky, streaked with cloud, is rose-coloured and the sand, in the waning light, is chocolate. The few other beach strollers are far behind you and this stretch of chocolate sand and pink sky is yours alone. You stop and take it in, the sound of the sea, the smell of salt, the sand under your feet. It’s perfect. Oregon’s perfect coastline.
